Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool is “the most beautiful club in the world” after securing the Premier League title in 2024/25.
The Reds demolished Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday to put top spot beyond the reach of nearest rivals Arsenal, who are 15 points adrift with four games remaining in the season.
It’s the second time in five years Liverpool have claimed the trophy after romping to the title in similar fashion to 2020, and a record-equalling 20th top-flight win.
The ground erupted in a sea of red smoke and wild cheers at the full-time whistle as the team celebrated with their fans, something they were denied during the coronavirus pandemic when Van Dijk last lifted the trophy.
“This is the most beautiful club in the world,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports. “We deserve this. We are going to enjoy the next couple of weeks and take it in.
“I was desperate to win it for them [the fans] and all the fans around the world, and for us as well.
“We have won two Premier League trophies in five years.”
Spurs were looking to spoil the day for the hosts when Dominic Solanke opened the scoring after 11 minutes, but the Merseyside outfit quickly responded with an equaliser from Luis Diaz.
From there it was all Liverpool. Alexis Mac Allister fired in a superb strike to put them ahead before Cody Gakpo doubled their lead by halftime.
Mo Salah got the goal he desperately wanted all game with a low hard finish in the 63rd minute and he almost got a second moments later.
Trent Alexander-Arnold sent in a low cross for the Egyptian winger, but the ball was inadvertently turned in by Tottenham full-back Destiny Udogie.
