Journalist Antonio Vitiello has explained how the AC Milan management are planning for the future with some key renewals almost tied up and further negotiations planned.

The winter transfer window only closed a couple of weeks ago and Milan were among the busiest clubs in Europe, signing five players in the month and allowing six to leave.

It is hoped that it will give Sergio Conceicao more suitable resources to continue pushing for a Champions League place and to perhaps make a deep run in the current edition.

Vitiello published his weekly column on MilanNews on the day of the crucial second leg against Feyenoord, dedicating most of it to the renewal situation concerning several key players.

“One of the negative protagonists in the match a week ago was Mike Maignan, with a blunder that cost Milan dearly. But the club has so much faith in the French goalkeeper that they will soon announce the renewal of his contract,” he begins.

“All done, until 2029 with a salary increase to 5 million euros net. It will be announced in March. Just as the extension of Reijnders will be made official, there will also be a significant pay rise here.

“There are still some details to be sorted out regarding Pulisic, while there is a stalemate regarding Theo Hernandez.”

Vitiello also spoke on Jimenez, who has now established himself as part of Milan’s first team squad but there is the shadow of Real Madrid’s buy-back clause(s) to contend with.

“Unfortunately for Milan tonight against Feyenoord they will not be able to field Alex Jimenez (out of the UEFA squad list). The 19-year-old Spaniard has grown to the point of pushing the club to reconsider the agreements with Real Madrid.

“There is a buy-back in favour of Los Blancos that would allow them to take Jimenez back for 9 million euros in the summer of 2025 or for 12 million in the summer of 2026.

“Milan will soon begin negotiations with Real to change the clauses. They absolutely want to keep him and will try. Someone like Jimenez is truly a talent to keep in house.”
