Birmingham City head coach Amy Merricks says that her side have nothing to lose and that they will throw everything into this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Championship title decider against London City Lionesses.

The Blues go into the final day two points adrift of The Pride. Victory will see them promoted back to the Barclays Women’s Super League.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Birmingham City boss Merricks said that her side’s focus is on delivering a top performance and putting everything into the game.

“Like any other game, we have done our homework and we have been analysing them but the focus is on our strengths and what we can bring to this game,” Merricks said.

“Everyone is looking at them now but we’ve spent 80-percent of the season at the top ourselves. I would by far rather be in our position because we have nothing to lose, we have got to go for it.

“For me, we have to focus on us and our strengths, let’s play into that. We know them inside out and we know that we will have to have a top performance. All we have got to do now is focus on applying ourselves as best as possible and give it absolutely everything, that’s all of our focus and that’s where it is at this moment in time.”

Birmingham City will be backed by a record home crowd of more than 7,000 at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park. Merricks says that the supporters have a huge role to play in the club’s final promotion push.

She said “From my point of view, we want to get that crowd going, we want to get them behind us. We know absolutely what the Blues fans want to see and we know what will set the tone of the game.

“For us, we focus on our performance, we focus on the game but we have the advantage of that behind us, they’re going to be that twelfth person this weekend.

“This is a one-off game, we want to give it everything and we are ready to give it absolutely everything.”

Tom Wagner and Tom Brady have offered their backing to Birmingham City ahead of the title showdown and Merricks went on to highlight the togetherness that has been built at the club.

She said “It’s huge. We are really integrated here, the support has been massive since the new ownership came in. You can see that in the transformation of the women’s and men’s set-ups. The whole club is moving in the same direction, we are incredibly ambitious and it’s very real.

“We’ve had that support all season. Tom Wagner and Tom Brady have been very much invested in what we’ve been doing and what we’ve been building.

“We’ve seen a lot of progression, we’re in an exciting position. We believe that we are still at the very start of the journey, so there’s a lot more to come from us. It has been an incredible season so far and having that support on Sunday is going to be really important, it’ll be like a twelfth person for us.”
