FC Barcelona made their way to the final of the Spanish Super Cup for the third consecutive year after the win over Athletic Club last night. The Blaugranes got a 2-0 victory in this game and gave further indication of their improved form since the turn of the year.
Gavi and Lamine Yamal were the scorers for the Catalan side in this match, and the performances of both of these players will be highly encouraging for Hansi Flick as they can prove to be decisive for him in this crucial second half of the season.
After helping his team get the win in this game, Yamal also spoke to the media after the full-time whistle. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the young winger expressed his delight at getting this win and making his way to the final of the competition:
“Yes, we’re very happy. In the end, the goal was to be here until the final and win it. We’re very pleased with the victory, and now we keep going.”
Yamal also emphasized how his team managed the game while coping with the physicality of Athletic Club:
“Athletic is a very physical team that makes you run a lot. It’s true that we struggled, especially at the end of the first half, but we managed the game very well, and we’re very happy.”
The Spaniard was quite happy with his own performance as well and expressed his happiness about helping the team in such an important match:
“Whenever the coach gives me the chance, I’m happy to help the team.”
The resolution of the registration issue of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor was another factor that made Yamal happy on the night:
“In the end, we are very happy that they can finally play. I hope they will be with us in the final. If the coach decides to play them, I hope they give it their all. I’m very happy for both of them. It’s normal to feel nervous when you can’t play, but when you receive news like this, you’re overjoyed. We’re all very happy for them,”
Lastly, the Barcelona winger also expressed his hopes for the upcoming final on Sunday: “It will be very tough… We hope to win it and return home with the title.”
Hopefully, Yamal will once again be at his best against whichever team Barcelona faces in this upcoming final. The opponents for this match will be decided tonight as Real Madrid take on Mallorca in their semi-final clash.
