West Ham make the trip to Manchester City this weekend looking for a response.
Julen Lopetegui’s side saw their four-game unbeaten run ended emphatically by Premier League leaders Liverpool last time out. A humiliating home defeat saw the visitors win 5-0 at the London Stadium to pile the pressure on the Spaniard’s position. West Ham enter the new year in 13th position with hopes of European football fading fast.
Lopetegui’s task does not get easier against a Manchester City side who have dominated this fixture. The Irons have failed to beat Pep Guardiola’s side in the last 18 league meetings between the teams. City responded to their own troubles with a 2-0 win at Leicester City in their most recent fixture.
West Ham will be without the services of Jarrod Bowen after the club captain suffered a fractured foot against Liverpool. Bowen is facing around two months out with the problem and adds to the absentees in the forward line, with Michail Antonio recovering from a car accident.
There is better news in midfield for West Ham, who have Tomas Soucek and Guido Rodirguez available after suspension. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski remains out due to concussion protocols.
West Ham predicted XI: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Soucek, Rodriguez; Kudus, Paqueta, Summerville, Fullkrug.
Manchester City host West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday 4th January 2024. Kick-off at the Etihad is 15:00 GMT.
