When could PSG be crowned Ligue 1 champions?

What has looked like a forgone conclusion for quite some time can be official when the Ligue 1 campaign resumes in a couple of weeks.

Paris Saint-Germain are currently 19 points clear of Olympique de Marseille for first in Ligue 1 and can officially clinch the title when all the matches on March 29 are completed, the next round of fixtures after the international break.

In order to officially be crowned champions, Les Parisiens need to win their next match against AS Saint-Étienne. Stade de Reims have to defeat Marseille and have AS Monaco and OGC Nice have to draw. The latter two face each other during that matchday in the Derby de la Côte d’Azur.

If that scenario occurs, it’d be among the earliest that they had won the French top flight. They clinched the 2015-16 league title on March 13, 2016.

PSG have won the last three Ligue 1 titles, while they have only failed to win this competition in two of the previous 10 editions, with Monaco winning in 2016-17 and Lille OSC beating them out in 2020-21.

If Luis Enrique’s men can avoid defeat in their final nine league fixtures they would become the first Ligue 1 side to go unbeaten in an entire domestic campaign.

That’s a feat only 10 teams in major Europeans leagues have ever achieved in an entire domestic season with the last one being Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023-24 Bundeslia campaign.
