Tottenham go into their Europa League quarter-final tie against Frankfurt this evening without key midfielder Dejan Kulusevski, but despite this, will they still be able to get past the German side that sit third in the Bundesliga?

Postecoglou’s side were able to come from behind against AZ Alkmaar after losing 1-0 in the first leg, but in this quarter-final tie they face a much tougher test.

Frankfurt eased past Ajax in the last round and scored six goals in the process, winning both the home and away legs. They are also the third top scorers in the Bundesliga.

Tottenham have have conceded in all of their last eight matches, letting in 45 goals overall this season, and may struggle to contain the free scoring Eagles.

So how can Spurs win the tie?

Despite being third in the league, Frankfurt are prone to conceding goals. Their goals against tally of 42 is the lowest in the Bundesliga top six, in fact they have conceded eight more than 15th placed FC St. Pauli.

Contrasting this, only Liverpool have scored more goals than Tottenham in the Premier League this season. The Lilywhites have scored two more than Arsenal in the league despite being 12 places below the Gunners.

This suggests that Tottenham should be able to create chances and score goals against the German side.

Frankfurt lost their star player Omar Marmoush in January and since then they have only scored 13 Bundesliga goals.

Although only six Premier League teams have conceded more goals than Spurs this season, Frankfurt not having their main attacking threat anymore could allow the north London side to keep the score down.

Also Tottenham’s main centre-half pairing, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, have not completed a full 90 minutes together in the Europa League as of yet. Van de Ven was rested at the weekend so this could be an opportunity for them to play a full match together.

The added presence of both first choice centre-halves and all three of Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence and Pedro Porro all being available to play could allow Tottenham to stop Frankfurt’s attacking threat.
