Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has full respect for Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers and says that the Midlands club will provide a big challenge for his side.

The Red Devils travel to The New Bucks Head to take on their third tier opponents this evening.

Manchester United are huge favourites to win the tie but head coach Skinner sees the progress that Wolves are making and says that his side will be tested.

“Being from the Midlands, I know what a huge club Wolverhampton Wanderers is and I know of their history,” Skinner said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They’re one of the clubs where you recognise the infrastructure and the way that they’re trying to go about their work.

“It’s a club that I am sure has eyes on WSL as well as the Championship. I don’t know their plan, it might be a five or 10-year plan but whenever you talk about growth and expansion, they’re a team that are mentioned. I welcome the support for a club like that, especially one as huge as Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“I expect them to be a real big challenge for us, especially with that tight ground with the fans close to the pitch. It’s another opportunity for us to be successful, we have to overcome the challenge.

“I welcome them, I’m happy to see the progress that the club is making and I wish them the very best but it’s about us trying to take victory.”

Manchester United faced another third tier opponent in West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round. The Red Devils were challenged by The Baggies before eventually running out emphatic 7-0 winners. Skinner says that his side will never be complacent against lower-ranked opposition.

He said “We treat Wolves as if they were a WSL team, there’s no danger of us being complacent. I don’t think that the environment and the fans will allow us to be complacent either. We have to be right on it, I don’t want a dip of anything in performance. I’m taking this competition seriously; we are the current holders and we have to go out and give everything.

“I’ve been really impressed with the team’s attitude. Even in the last round against West Brom, I don’t think we dipped in professional standards, I just felt that it was going to take time.

“We’ve got to go and hunt Wolves. We want to win the game and I’m sure they do as well but we have to show our qualities.”

Manchester United’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers kicks-off at 5.15pm this evening.
