Everton defender Michael Keane is expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window, and he won’t have any shortage of admirers.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old defender is being chased by several clubs around the world, including Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Keane joined the Toffees in 2017 for a fee of around £30 million and has made over 225 appearances for the Merseyside club.
He has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and doubts remain whether he will be offered a new deal. Keane was playing regularly under Sean Dyche, but David Moyes has primarily used Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski in central defence.
Saudi Pro League side Al Riyad and MLS team FC Dallas are also closely following him. Everton have a number of players who are out of contract at the end of the season, and the decision on their futures won’t be made until they are mathematically certain to be a Premier League club next season.
It looks unlikely that the Toffees will renew his contract. He is on £80k-per-week wages and is one of the club’s highest earners. Everton are most likely to invest money in a young defender in the summer window.
Keane has dropped down the pecking order under Moyes at the Merseyside club. He was an unused substitute in the past eight games, as Moyes’s side maintained an unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Wolves could be a good option for Keane. They are looking likely to secure Premier League status next season and would be able to sign Keane on a free transfer.
They will need an experienced defender, and Keane fits the bill. He could also be interested in continuing in the Premier League rather than moving abroad, although a move to Saudi Arabia could be financially beneficial for him.
