Júlia Bartel has joined Liverpool in a loan move from Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea. The midfielder will represent the Reds until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 20-year-old midfielder left Barcelona in the summer of 2024 to join Chelsea on a three-year deal. Bartel made her debut for the side in the Women’s Champions League, when she came off the bench to feature in a 3-1 win against FC Twente.
Soon after arriving in London, Bartel’s attention turned to the international stage. At the U20s World Cup in Colombia, Bartel and her native Spain reached the quarter-finals.
“I’m very happy to be here in Liverpool in a big club and I’m looking forward to starting”, said Bartel. She arrives on Merseyside ahead of Liverpool’s first match of the year against West Ham in the Women’s FA Cup.
“I think Liverpool is one of the big teams in this league and I think the style of play of this club can be great for me and I’m so excited to start here.”
Matt Beard and Liverpool will hope the loan signing of the Spaniard can help them climb the Women’s Super League table. The Reds currently sit in eighth, a huge 12 points off fourth where they finished last season. They will host Brighton and Hove Albion in their first WSL match of the new year.
Júlia Bartel will be eligible to play for Liverpool’s clash with West Ham this Sunday. The Reds will make the journey to the Chigwell Construction Stadium for their FA Cup clash.
