It is only a matter of time before Xabi Alonso is confirmed as the new manager of Real Madrid, replacing Carlo Ancelotti who will be leaving at the end of the La Liga season.

Alonso, 43, announced his departure from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week and is set to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu, with there being optimism that he will be the one to lead the team at the FIFA Club World Cup next month.

With Alonso coming in, some of his current players at Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, one of whom happens to be Jonathan Tah.

The German international’s contract with the Bundesliga giants expires on June 30 and he is leaving the club as a free agent.

With Real Madrid looking for defensive reinforcements, Tah has been touted as a target that Alonso is keen to bring in, although the likes of Bayern Munich are Barcelona are also pushing.

Tah addresses future

Now, in an interaction with BILD (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Tah has issued an update on his future, stating that he will make a final decision on his next club very soon.

“I’ll make a decision on my new club soon,” confirmed Tah, before adding, “I don’t want to set a date. But it won’t be in two months.”

As mentioned earlier, other clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also in the race to sign Tah apart from Real Madrid.

In fact, it would be safe to say that those teams are much better placed than Los Blancos to secure the 29-year-old defender’s services than Real Madrid, who have Dean Huijsen of AFC Bournemouth as the main target to strengthen the backline.

It remains to be seen where Tah ends up once his contract at Bayer Leverkusen expires in a little over a month.
