Manchester United have clinched a crucial win at home to Ipswich Town tonight – and they were certainly made to work for it.

A five-goal thriller has swayed in the Red Devils’ favour to move them up to 14th place in the table following Everton’s draw away to Brentford.

Those in attendance at Old Trafford – and watching on from home – expected the worst for the hosts when Patrick Dorgu was shown a straight red card on the brink of the interval for a reckless challenge on Omari Hutchinson, with such fears only worsening when Jayden Philogene drew Ipswich level with an equaliser in the fourth minute of injury time.

To counteract Dorgu’s dismissal, Ruben Amorim was forced into a defensive change, which saw Noussair Mazraoui deployed in place of Alejandro Garnacho.

The change wasn’t met too well by the youngster, either.

No player will be overly ecstatic at being sacrificed for another teammate’s mishap, but especially not when they were enjoying a promising first half prior to the substitution, as Garnacho had been.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, the Argentine livewire headed ‘straight down the tunnel’ after being replaced, with the journalist adding: “Garnacho has been the most constant threat. Understandable there had to be a personnel change, but Garnacho a dubious choice.”

Dorgu’s blushes were ultimately spared thanks to Harry Maguire, who netted what would turn out to be the winning goal in the 47th minute.

United were then made to stand firm for the remainder of the contest, knowing that more dropped points to the relegation candidates would’ve only furthered added to the despair felt around M16 at present.

Next up for Amorim and his men is a return to FA Cup action with a fifth-round tie against Fulham this Sunday.
