Chelsea are not expected to sanction a January exit for Christopher Nkunku despite links with a move away according to reports.

The Blues have made a great start to the season, but are expected to have a quiet window in terms of incomings, although they have been linked with a move for Bournemouth duo Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi.

Some reports have suggested Chelsea have made five players available next month, and the Blues could be braced for a flurry of offers for some of their fringe players.

Chelsea not expected to sanction Nkunku January exit

Whilst the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell are expected to leave the club, there have been rumours of an exit for Nkunku.

The France international has been linked with a move to Barcelona and he’s believed to be unhappy with his lack of game time at Stamford Bridge.

Nkunku is currently playing second fiddle to Nicolas Jackson and has only started two league games all season, whilst he’s fared better in the cup competitions.

However, despite this Mail Sport have reported the Blues aren’t prepared to sanction a January exit for the 27-year-old.

The report adds that Chelsea still need Nkunku in case of an injury to Jackson, which would leave them very light at the top end of the pitch.

Nkunku has mainly been used as a nine, which by Maresca’s own admission isn’t his best position and with Chelsea looking to bring in a striker next summer it feels like this could be his last season at the club.

The Frenchman is once again likely to find himself on the bench for Monday night’s trip to Ipswich, but he will need to be ready to make an impact if called upon, as he is still an important member of the squad.

It will be interesting to see how Chelsea trasnfer target Liam Delap does and there’s a chance the Englishman could take Nkunku’s place in the squad next season.
