For the final time in 2024, Bayern’s players are packing their bags and off on their travels. Saturday’s trip to Mainz is the team’s 25th away fixture of the year in all competitions, while there’s also been a number of friendly games and the Audi Summer Tour to Korea.
A year with plenty of travelling is nothing new for Bayern’s players, though. Seasoned pros like Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich have once again proven that they can deal with it all and keep their energy levels up even as the year draws to a close. The numbers alone prove that, since Bayern haven’t lost their last Bundesliga away game of a calendar year since a 1-0 defeat at Hansa Rostock in December 2001. It’s been a run of 19 wins and three draws since then.
Check out some photos from Bayern’s recent run of away wins to finish the year:
Bayern have won their last Bundesliga away game of the calendar year every season since 2009.
The Bavarians have actually won their final away league game of the year in each of the last 15 seasons, starting with a 5-1 victory at Bochum on 12 December 2009. Last year produced a 2-1 victory in Wolfsburg. Will Mainz now be added to that list?
The aforementioned thrashing of Bochum is also by no means the only big victory in Bayern’s last trip of recent years. There was the 5-0 win at VfB Stuttgart in 2021, the 6-0 triumph in Freiburg in 2003 and even the 7-0 victory at Werder Bremen in 2012 – the joint-biggest away win in Bayern’s history, together with an 8-1 success at St. Pauli and 7-0 victory in Bochum.
