The Carabao Cup fourth round draw will take place this Wednesday night after Liverpool v West Ham, that third round game kicks-off at 8pm tonight.

Unless you have been hiding in a cave this week, you will be aware that this draw for the last 16 will have 17 clubs involved.

With AFC Wimbledon forced to move their third round match against Newcastle United to St James’ Park, that rearranged game happening next Tuesday night.

The Carabao Cup fourth round matches will be played the week commencing Monday 28 October, with all the games expected to be on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights that week.

So how are things looking ahead of this Carabao Cup fourth round draw tonight?

Tuesday 17 September 2024:

Blackpool 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1 Brentford 3 Leyton Orient 1 Everton 1 Southampton 1 (Southampton winning 6-5 on penalties) Man U 7 Barnsley 0 Preston 1 Fulham 1 (Preston winning 16-15 on penalties) QPR 1 Crystal Palace 2 Stoke City v Fleetwood Town 1 (Stoke win 2-1 on penalties)

Wednesday 18 September 2024:

Brighton 3 Wolves 2 Coventry 1 Spurs 2

Tuesday 24 September 2024:

Chelsea 5 Barrow 0 Man City 2 Watford 1 Walsall 0 Leicester 0 (Leicester won 3-0 on penalties) Wycombe Wanderers 1 Aston Villa 2

Wednesday 25 September 2024:

Arsenal v Bolton (Sky Sports+) Liverpool v West Ham (Sky Sports Football)

Tuesday 1 October 2024:

AFC Wimbledon v Newcastle United (Sky Sports+)

With how it was all fixed, none of the clubs in the Champions League or Europa League having to play each other, all of those clubs have progressed so far, with the odd scare.

Assuming Arsenal and Liverpool join them, that would  mean the following in the Carabao Cup fourth round tonight:

Premier League clubs

Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man U, Spurs, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Leicester

Championship club

Preston, Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke

Plus of course AFC Wimbledon and Newcastle United being the other ball of the 16 to be drawn out tonight.

With those Champions League and Europa League clubs getting a bye in the second round AND effectively for most of them another bye in the third round, having been kept apart from each other. Fair to say that the chances of an ‘easy’ looking draw for Newcastle United or AFC Wimbledon is looking even more unlikely than normal, especially on this NUFC run of picked out as the away club in the last eight domestic cup draws.

If Arsenal and Liverpool do win tonight, then it will mean all but West Ham of the top 11 clubs in the Premier League last season, will be in tonight’s Carabao Cup fourth round draw.

I don’t know about you lot but if I was offered now a home draw  for Newcastle United (and AFC Wimbledon) against any club, then with that horrendous run of away draws and so few ‘easyish’ potential opponents, I would take it for sure.
