One target that the capital club had in mind was to bring Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong. The 23-year-old was coming off winning the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal and making a UEFA Europa League final appearance, so the player was on several radars this summer.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid were all reportedly monitoring the player for a possible transfer. Nonetheless, no move would transpire for the versatile Dutch defender, who can play right-back, left-back, and midfield.

Nonetheless, with this file going quiet, Chelsea have entered the race for Frimpong. TBR Football reports that the Bayer Leverkusen defender is on the Blues’ radar as they have drawn up a five-man shortlist of potential replacements for the injury-prone Reece James.

Frimpong played 47 matches across all competitions for the Bundesliga winners this past 2023–24 season, scoring 14 goals while registering 12 assists. This week, the player recorded two assists in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League.
