With the January transfer window now open, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to offload players who no longer fit into their plans—Marco Asensio being one of them.

Since November 30, Asensio’s role has gradually diminished. The former Real Madrid star has fallen out of the starting lineup and has made only a few appearances off the bench.

According to Mail Sport, Aston Villa is among the clubs interested in Asensio as they seek to strengthen their attack before the window closes. Earlier this week, reports also linked the Spaniard to Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea.

Aston Villa is said to be leading the race, but Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray have also shown interest. Talks for a permanent transfer are ongoing, with the fee expected to range between €15 million and €25 million.

As the window edges closer to closing and Luis Enrique seemingly does not consider him a key part of his plans, Asensio’s future is becoming a major topic of speculation.

On Saturday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Asensio remains a separate topic from Marcus Rashford for Aston Villa. Moreover, the Premier League side have been in talks with PSG and agent Jorge Mendes.

Asensio is now available for a loan move, with Cher Ndour joining Fiorentina. Romano also mentions that Rashford is very close, while talks for Asensio are still ongoing.

Recently, L’Equipe’s Loïc Tanzi reported that talks between Aston Villa and PSG for Asensio are ongoing and described as “positive.”
