Lewis Ferguson’s agent Bill McMurdo has hinted that his client could leave Bologna in the near future, and has spoken about Napoli’s interest in the Scotland international amidst rumours that the Partenopei could come in with another offer in the summer.

Ferguson agent: ‘Could have been a different story had it not been for injury’

Reports earlier in the week claimed that Napoli could be poised to make an offer for Ferguson if Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa decides to leave in the summer. If that does happen, then Antonio Conte would have three Scotland internationals among his midfield options, with Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour already starring at the Stadio Maradona.

McMurdo says that there is plenty of interest in Ferguson in Italy and around the rest of Europe, but adds that there is a possibility the 25-year-old continues in Serie A, but not with Bologna.

“It didn’t start well, but he recovered quickly and brough interest from many, in Italy and in Europe,” McMurdo said when asked about Ferguson’s season in an interview with Telecapri.

He continued: “There is a possibility that he will carry on playing in Serie A next season, but not in a Bologna shirt.”

He then provided background on Napoli’s interest last season: “This time last year, Napoli came forward with a concrete expression of interest. I am convinced that the story could have gone in the direction had it not been for his injury.”

What Ferguson told McTominay and Gilmour about Serie A

Ferguson’s agent went on to explain that working under Conte would be a dream for the former Aberdeen midfielder.

“He’d appreciate working under a coach like Conte. He’s always been very attentive to coaches’ instructions. He started as an attacking midfielder, but he was asked to carry out even more defensive duties and did it without holding back. Now he’s a box-to-box midfielder.”

He then spoke about the Scotland connection in Serie A, discussing Ferguson’s relationship with the likes of Gilmour and McTominay.

“They talk a lot, sometimes even about Naples,” he said. “I’ll add that before they signed with Napoli, McTominay and Gilmour asked Ferguson what Serie A was like. Lewis told them to not even think about it. Just sign because it’s great here.”
