Four English clubs are lining up to sign Tom Cannon from Leicester City. The rumoured transfer fee is £10m, for the striker who recently returned to the King Power Stadium.
Yesterday, it was announced that Leicester City had recalled Tom Cannon from his former loan spell at Stoke City. The striker was on fire for the first half-season at the Potters, scoring 10 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.
So, the Foxes saw this as an opportunity. It is widely documented that Leicester are at a disadvantage in the transfer window due to Profit and Sustainability Rules. Therefore, it made sense for Leicester to recall Tom Cannon, so they could sell him and add to their transfer kitty.
According to an update from trusted journalist Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, there are four clubs interested in signing Tom Cannon - Burnley, Everton, Sheffield United and Sunderland.
In his own words, Mokbel said: "Burnley enter the race for Leicester striker Tom Cannon. Foxes looking to cash in after recall from successful loan at Stoke. Bids around £10m. Everton also in the hunt, along with Sunderland and Sheffield United."
Yesterday, Sheffield United were linked with making the first move for Cannon. However, their rumoured £7m valuation falls slightly below what Mokbel lists the transfer fee as.
Given Leicester's struggles this season, the obvious question to ask here is why won't Leicester keep ahold of Cannon? However, the prize of selling him vastly outweighs Leicester scoring potentially five more goals this season.
Besides, Cannon has proven he can be a star elsewhere. He already played in the Championship last season with Leicester but wasn't given too many chances. Therefore, he deserves the opportunity to make a name for himself elsewhere.
While £10m might not seem like a lot, it's £10m that Leicester would not have made if they let his loan deal continue at Stoke. Therefore, this is good business from the Foxes, albeit subtly ruthless.
