Frankfurt cruised to a 4-0 victory at Heidenheim. Omar Marmoush struck twice, with Farès Chaibi and Hugo Ekitiké also getting on the scoresheet and Oscar Højlund making his comeback from injury.

Marmoush scored his 12th and 13th Bundesliga goals of the season either side of Chaibi’s smart finish. Ekitiké’s close-range effort eventually put the seal on comfortable victory for the away side, who extend their winning run in all competitions to seven matches and close the gap on league leaders Bayern Munich to just four points.

Five changes for Eintracht

Dino Toppmöller made five alterations to the Eagles team that started Thursday’s 2-1 win at Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League. Rasmus Kristensen, Ellyes Skhiri, Nathaniel Brown, Mario Götze and Igor Matanovic all came into the side, replacing Nnamdi Collins, Mahmoud Dahoud, Niels Nkounkou, Chaibi and Ekitiké.

Marmoush does it again

The game’s first big opening fell Heidenheim’s way on 12 minutes, when Mikkel Kaufmann’s shot from Jan Schöppner’s lay-off was blocked by goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. It was Eintracht, however, who opened the scoring midway through the first half – and the goal came from a familiar source. Brown did brilliantly to send Marmoush racing clear and the Egyptian made no mistake with his finish, slipping the ball beyond Kevin Müller to put the Eagles 1-0 up.

Marmoush had the chance to double his and Eintracht’s tally on the half-hour mark but steered his shot wide of the far post with the outside of his boot. Schöppner dragged an effort well wide of Trapp’s left-hand post late in the half, but other than that there was precious little threat from the home side as Toppmöller’s charges went into the interval with a narrow lead.

Eagles run riot

Chaibi entered the fray for Matanovic at half-time, and it took the Algerian international less than four minutes to double the Eagles’ advantage. Brown’s cross struck a Heidenheim defender but landed right at the feet of Chaibi, who sent an unstoppable first-time effort past Müller. Marmoush continued his purple patch with Eintracht’s third of the afternoon nine minutes later, collecting another Brown pass and sliding the ball into the far corner for his 17th goal of the campaign in all competitions.

Marmoush may be a little disappointed not to have completed his hat-trick in the second half after shooting wide from a good position and seeing a goal-bound effort parried by goalkeeper Müller late in the match, but Ekitiké put the icing on the cake for the visitors with a smart finish from Knauff’s cross. Fit-again Højlund also made his first top-flight appearance since the defeat at Borussia Dortmund Matchday 1, replacing Hugo Larsson for the final ten minutes.
