Brentford Under-21s made it two wins on the bounce in the Professional Development League with a 3-0 victory against Swansea City on Monday afternoon.

Romelle Donovan opened the scoring in impressive fashion with Riley Owen and Iwan Morgan also on target at Wheatsheaf Park.

Sam Saunders took charge of the game as the young Bees looked to build on the previous week's 2-0 win against Birmingham, in which first-team full-back Aaron Hickey marked his return from long-term injury with a goal.

The reverse fixture was an entertaining affair and this match began in similar vein; the young Bees pushing the opposition back into their own half.

It took just over 10 minutes for the hosts to open the scoring as Donovan fired a powerful effort through the keeper's hands.

Ethan Brierley almost gave Brentford a second soon after as his whipped effort struck the post.

Brentford were in control of the contest and they did make it 2-0 when Owen powered home an effort with the assistance of a deflection.

Sam Parker smashed a shot against the crossbar after a well-worked corner routine from the away side.

The Swans started the second half well but they were still yet to test Bees keeper Julian Eyestone.

Brentford scored their third of the game following a fine team move which Morgan dispatched at the near post.

Donovan went close to adding his second with a great strike from just outside the box, but the winger’s effort went agonisingly wide.

Eyestone was eventually called into action 10 minutes from time as he pulled off a great save to deny a Morgan Bates shot.

That was how the game would end as the young Bees made it back-to-back victories in the PDL.

The victory saw the west Londoners climb to the top of the standings with 45 points from 21 games this season.

Brentford are next in action on Friday 7 March when they face Colchester United away from home.

Saunders pleased with professional display

Sam Saunders was full of praise for Brentford Under-21s following their 3-0 win over Swansea City Under-21s.

The victory was an important one for the young Bees in their quest for a league title and was redemption for the side following a 3-3 draw with Swansea earlier this season.
