Aaron Ramsdale has admitted that there weren't many transfer offers for him to choose from last summer and hinted about staying at Southampton should that happen again.
It's been a fortnight since pundit Don Goodman presented his straight-up opinion on Southampton's transfer decisions. Now, that time, it pinched the Saints fans, but don't you think he's proving true time and again?
While, it's true that Southampton has some brilliant players this season, yet, talking of signings, only Ramsdale and Mateus Fernandes have proven so. Be it on the field or off the field.
After all, with club regulars going self-centred, one doesn't expect newcomers like them to uphold the club's spirit, throughout the season.
For once, these regular off-field contributions still seem understandable for Fernandes, a young talent, but such gestures from renowned ex-Arsenal star, Ramsdale surprise all. In fact, the star's Southampton move still remains one of the biggest mysteries, as to why he chose them of all clubs.
But not anymore as finally, we know the true reason behind Ramsdale's debatable Southampton arrival.
Recently, the keeper opened up about why he chose Southampton, and in doing so, he left fans with a surprise twist.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Ramsdale referenced his future plans, saying: "This summer, I might get sold, or I might still be here. This season was all about playing. Ultimately, there wasn't a plethora of clubs at the time to have my pick from."
Now, surely this statement has shown Southampton the harsh reality of its current reputation. Nevertheless, they can still be happy about even the slightest possibility of Ramsdale staying in another season.
It might not be ideal for Ramsdale, but for Southampton’s promotion push, it could be a massive boost.
And who knows, maybe Ramsdale gets the prize for this sacrifice with a National team boost. While the keeper stood out of action this time, his return to the playing eleven may not be that far.
It's easy to realize, it can be the perfect scenario for Southampton if Ramsdale continues. Hope that happens.
