Inter Milan took on Hellas Verona in Serie A yesterday.

On paper, it was an important match in the title race. Inter may be at a distinct disadvantage to Napoli in the league table, but at the same time they know that just one slip-up by the league leaders could open everything back up again.

Therefore, three points were certainly important for Inter yesterday.

However, at the same time, Inter very clearly had other things to worry about.

Inter Milan played out a spectacular 3-3 draw against Barcelona in the first leg of a Champions League semifinal tie on Wednesday.

And then, this coming Tuesday, the Nerazzurri host the Blaugranas in the second leg of the tie.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi made wholesale changes to his team.

Only Yann Bisseck remained in the starting eleven. The Inter coach changed all other ten starters.

It was hardly a surprise, therefore, to see Inter not quite at their fluid best.

The Nerazzurri did just about enough to win, via a Kristjan Asllani penalty early on.

However, it was not exactly a high tempo match – that’s putting it mildly.

Inter looked reluctant to take many risks.

Therefore, there was a certain feeling of relief at the end when the result was secure. But there was a surreal feeling that the team were just waiting for the real action to begin in midweek.
