Liverpool are expected to undergo a major squad rebuild under Arne Slot in the summer transfer window, and several players could be offloaded.

The Reds have yet to offer new contracts to Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, and all three could leave at the end of the season.

Under Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, Liverpool have shown terrific business acumen in extracting high transfer fees from unwanted players at the club.

Therefore, expectations are high that if Liverpool sell players like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz or Caoimhin Kelleher, they will demand a high transfer fee.

Darwin Nunez is another player who is most likely to depart. The Uruguayan striker has had a disappointing season. He has failed to make an impact, and speculations are rife that his days at Anfield will be numbered.

He was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr in the January transfer window, but Liverpool resisted all temptations thrown at them. The Saudi clubs are still interested in signing him, but Liverpool could rethink their strategy with Atletico Madrid now joining the race.

Liverpool already rejected a massive offer from Al-Nassr in the January window for Nunez, but this potential offer from the La Liga giants might tempt them.

Hughes should ask Atletico to sell Julian Alvarez as a part of the deal.

Alvarez has emerged as a possible target for Liverpool in recent days and his agent Fernando Hidalgo confirmed that the Reds were indeed interested in signing him.

The Argentine forward has scored 23 goals for Atletico in all competitions this season and has looked “unstoppable” at times. He can play as a striker, a number 10, or out wide, and his incredible work rate makes him an attractive option for Liverpool.

He also has Premier League experience, having played with Manchester City before. In theory, he should be an ideal candidate in Slot’s system, and Liverpool can lure him to Anfield using Nunez as part of a blockbuster swap deal.

Alvarez has a contract at the Spanish club until 2030, and Atletico are likely to demand a massive transfer fee. However, Liverpool can sweeten the deal by using Nunez as part-exchange. It’s easier said than done, but Liverpool should at least make a concrete effort to make it happen.
