Manchester City sent a scout to watch Velez Sarsfield striker Maher Carrizo in his side’s 3-0 win over San Antonio Bulo Bulo in the CONMEBOL Libertadores this week, as per a new report.
Changes aplenty are in the offing at the Etihad Stadium come the end of the season as Pep Guardiola looks to rebuild his side to challenge on all fronts next term after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign by Manchester City’s own ridiculous standards.
A failure to challenge for the Premier League title and a 6-2 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 will see incoming director of football Hugo Viana back Guardiola heavily in the transfer market to get Manchester City back to the very top.
Kevin De Bruyne will be leaving the club at the end of the season and Manchester City will be hopeful of giving the Belgian a winning send-off as they prepare to face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is Manchester City’s priority replacement for the 33-year-old playmaker and it has been reported that officials at the Etihad Stadium met with the 22-year-old German’s family in England this week to discuss a sensational summer move.
Hugo Viana is also leading City’s efforts to secure the arrival of Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest and whilst personal terms are believed to not be an issue, there remains work done to reach an agreement on a fee with City’s fellow top-four hopefuls.
AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is also a leading candidate for Manchester City and the 2023 treble winners have made an approach for the 26-year-old Netherlands international to the Serie A club, who signed Kyle Walker from City on loan in January till the end of the season.
As per a new report by Scouts in Attendance, Manchester City had a scout in attendance to watch Maher Carrizo in Velez Sarsfield’s 3-0 victory over San Antonio Bulo Bulo in the CONMEBOL Libertadores earlier this week. Carrizo is likely to have made a strong impression, netting a penalty in the 68th minute to break the deadlock for the hosts.
Manchester City have a strong scouting network in Argentina and signed Julian Alvarez from River Plate three seasons ago, with the now Atletico Madrid forward playing a pivotal role in the club’s historic 2022-23 treble campaign and subsequent 2023-24 Premier League title crown before moving to Spain last summer.
City also finally welcomed Claudio Echeverri to Manchester in January after signing the Argentine talent on a deal with a similar framework to that of Alvarez, though it remains to be seen what the 2025-26 campaign will hold for the 19-year-old attacking midfielder as he trains with the Manchester City first-team under Guardiola.
