Manchester United have reportedly made definitive decisions regarding the futures of Tyrell Malacia and Toby Collyer.
According to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, the Red Devils have agreed to part ways with Malacia in January, at least on a temporary basis.
The Red Devils splashed £13 million in the summer of 2022 to secure the left-back’s services from Feyenoord. But while he was regarded as one of the finest young full-backs in Europe during his time in Rotterdam, Malacia’s stint at Old Trafford never took off.
Last season, he spent the entire campaign on the sidelines nursing an injury. Whilst he made his return this season, he appears to be short on the physical level, struggling to cope with the pacey nature of the Premier League.
Therefore, Blauuwhof reveals that Malacia has reached an agreement with the Red Devils over a January loan move. The club’s head coach Ruben Amorim has also given his blessing, so the Netherlands international is now expected to sign for a new club in one of the Top European leagues. So it remains to be seen what will be his next destination.
On the contrary, Collyer is set to stay in Carrington until the end of the season after winning Amorim’s favour, explains Manchester Evening News.
The 21-year-old was promoted to the first team last summer, but was initially left starving for playing time. Nevertheless, the young midfielder has been climbing his way up the pecking order, usurping the struggling veterans Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. He has been Amorim’s first choice off the bench to replace Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.
This decision will be a blow for Ruud van Nistelrooy who was hoping to reunite with the youngster at Leicester City who are desperate for January reinforcements.
