Wrexham's pulling power could be on full display again this summer.

Wrexham will look at Premier League free agents this summer, manager Phil Parkinson has revealed, following links with Kevin De Bruyne and Jamie Vardy.

The Red Dragons completed a historic third-successive promotion on Saturday evening by beating promotion rivals Charlton Athletic 3-0 at Stok Cae Ras.

Wrexham have made a splash in all three of the divisions they have competed in over as many seasons, and, by the sounds of it, they aren't going to fall into line once they take to the Championship for the first time.

Wrexham to target Premier League free agents

The club's spending powers have been well documented, but they are about to step into what Parkinson has described as "one of the most competitive leagues in world football," and that will be in both footballing and financial terms.

The appeal of playing for the club, who have their own Disney+ series and are owned by Hollywood superstars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, is also clear for all to see, and has made the club an unlikely option for big-name players in the sport.

De Bruyne and Vardy, two soon-to-be free agents, have been mentioned in the same breath as the League One side in recent days. Parkinson has revealed that he will go after top flight players who are without a club this summer, but no conversations have been had about signing either of the two aforementioned legends of the game.

"We haven't really spoken about anything," the Wrexham boss said, via ESPN. "We've always got our eye on players who are free transfers and are going to be available and will continue to do that, but I think, in football, recruitment it is about getting a lot of tight decisions right and I felt we did that in January when we were under a little bit of pressure because we weren't scoring enough goals.

"To hold our nerve and get the right players in made the difference. I'm very pleased with that. We need to evaluate in terms of the budget, the level of wages that players are going to demand and enhance that quality with the culture and what we have built here.

"So, the good thing about getting up today, is we've got time now to sit back, reflect on this and sit down with the owners.

Parkinson wants to maintain the culture that he has built in the dressing room next season, which will mean implementing a "no superstars and no egos," transfer policy this summer.

Jamie Vardy would be the perfect summer signing for Wrexham

Wrexham's comfortable victory over Nathan Jones' Addicks, who are usually quite tight at the back, displayed the Welsh side's improvements in forward areas since the end of the winter window, when they acquired the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith, who scored twice on Saturday.

But despite the talent in the team, there is no obvious sign that they are going to be able to translate that into goals in the second tier. None of their players have proven themselves in the Championship in recent seasons. Vardy has.

Not only would he be able to bring a potent level of threat up top, but he's not the type of person to come to the club purely for a big pay cheque. He will grind and graft, as is his way, and should logically fit into what Parkinson has built in north Wales.
