Portsmouth Women sign England youth international Emma Thompson on loan

Portsmouth have signed forward Emma Thompson on loan from local Barclays Women’s Championship rivals Southampton for the rest of the season.

An England youth international, Thompson was Chelsea’s top goalscorer in the WSL Academy League during the 2021/22 campaign, late signing a two-year senior contract with the Blues.

She made several first team appearances and had a spell on loan at Lewes, before a permanent move to the Saints in 2023.

Pompey boss Jay Sadler told portsmouthfc.co.uk: “I’m very excited that Emma has chosen to join us. She is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team.

“She has the speed, can combine, has a real eye for goal, can defend and can press. It makes us more unpredictable and gives us further options in the forward line.”
