PRIMAVERA COME FROM BEHIND TO DRAW WITH CAGLIARI

AC Milan
·19. Februar 2025
Our Primavera side played out a draw in their midweek clash away to Cagliari. It finished 1-1 in Sardinia following goals from Kingstone Mutandwa and Nicolò Turco in the first half. The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute, but the Rossoneri responded through the 21-year-old on the 41-minute mark. After their late defeat to Sassuolo on Saturday, Guidi's Diavolo, who were missing several players, were able to add a point to their tally at a difficult ground on a windy afternoon.
Our lads certainly did well to hold firm in the second half after Nissen's red card in the 59th minute. The Rossoneri managed to stop Cagliari from gaining the upper hand following the sending-off, even if they inevitably had to dig in and defend attentively during the closing stages. The Primavera will return to action at 18:00 CET on Monday, when they'll face Atalanta at the PUMA House of Football. The aim will be to return to winning ways and consolidate our position in the top six of the table.

MATCH REPORT Cagliari made the brighter start and threatened twice through Sulev (14' and 19'), but Colzani, starting between the sticks in place of Longoni (who is currently away on international duty with Italy U17s), kept out both attempts. At the other end, Turco directed the ball towards goal after some combination play between Magni and Liberali, but Iliev made the save (21'). Cagliari took a 26th-minute lead through Kingstone, who beat Colzani to the ball and slotted into an empty net. Hodzic had a goal ruled out for offside after 32 minutes, but the Rossoneri grabbed an equaliser before half-time through Turco, who controlled Victor's ball over the top before firing home (41').
The second half continued in the same manner as the opening 45 minutes: lots of tackles, a lack of fluidity or quality and a wind that was disrupting the flow of the match. In the 59th minute, Nissen pulled back an opponent on the counter-attack and the referee showed him a straight red card, leaving the Rossoneri down to ten men. Guidi responded by replacing Perin with Parmiggiani as the Diavolo started to sit a bit deeper. We were struggling to counter and pose a threat in attack, but we also weren't under too much pressure defensively. Indeed, only in the final stages did Kingstone have a couple of headers that narrowly missed the target. It finished 1-1.
