Barcelona’s La Liga title triumph has seen chatter reemerge surrounding the most successful clubs in the history of Spanish competition.

Barcelona, in putting Espanyol to the sword on Thursday night, made it 28 Spanish top-flight championships across their storied history.

The Blaugrana, though, remain some way off the leaders in the same category, arch rivals Real Madrid.

Los Blancos last season added their record-extending 36th league crown, meaning they remain a full eight clear of Barcelona in the standings.

Rounding out the podium places when it comes to La Liga’s most successful clubs are Atlético Madrid, who boast 11 league titles.
