Union Berlin look to be in for a busy finish to the current January transfer deadline. The Bundesliga’s Köpenick club’s continued search for more attacking assistance continues to spurn plenty of rumours. FC St. Gallen striker Willem Geubbels and LASK Linz forward Marin Ljubicic have both been linked with moves to die Eisernen.

Union’s efforts to acquire former youth academy attacker Fisnik Asllani proved futile. The Hoffenheim professional – currently on loan at second division side SV Elversberg – personally committed himself to his loan club in a recent on-pitch interview with Sky Germany. FCU managing director Horst Heldt’s thus search carries on in neighbouring Austria and Switzerland.

The 23-year-old Geubbels moved from the Swiss Super League from his native France in January 2023. He’s since increased his estimated market worth from €1.8m to €5m. The former Lyon academy man has scored 10 goals and contributed two assists in 24 appearances across all competitions for the Espen this season.

Ljubicic (22) has thrived since moving to Linsk from HNK Hajduk Split in January 2022. Last season, he turned in 15 goals across all competitions. With a present estimated market worth of €4m, Union may be prepared to overpay for the young talent once christened the “Split Mbappé”.

Kicker confirms reports originating in both French and Croatian sources regarding Union’s interest in both players. A deal for Ljubicic may soon be confirmed after it’s been noted that the Croatian youth international was absent from club training.
