The Blues trail the Spaniards 4-1 from the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final tie a week ago.
Chelsea face an enormous task to get back into the tie but head coach Bompastor says that her side are ready for the challenge and will go and attack the game.
“We need to score, so we will go for it,” Bompastor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “This is part of the club’s DNA and mentality. It’s a home game and we will try to do our best to be in a position to score goals. We also know that it’ll be really important not to concede.
“It’s a big challenge but we are ready for it.”
With Chelsea being three goals down, they will have to take risks in the second leg. Bompastor has complete trust in her side to get the balance right between attack and defence.
She said “We will have to take risks to score but it’s about having the right mentality going into the game. We have a lot of talent and quality, the players that start the game will have to show that talent. I know we are capable of that.”
Reflecting on the learnings from the first leg defeat, Bompastor said that a lack of focus late in the tie cost her side and that The Blues need to improve in that aspect of the game this afternoon.
She said “In these type of games, we need to defend until the end of the game. When the score was 2-1, the result was not too bad for us but we then conceded two goals that could have been avoided in the last 10 minutes of the game.
“We need to focus from the beginning until the end and work really hard to make sure that we make things difficult for Barcelona.”
