Ange Postecoglou says he still believes his Tottenham side are capable of achieving something in the Premier League this season despite dropping more points in a 2-2 draw with Wolves.

Spurs conceded the first goal for the 15th time at home in the Premier League this calendar year when Hwang Hee-Chan gave Wolves the lead on seven minutes, before goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson put Spurs ahead at the break.

But substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen struck an 87th minute equaliser for the away side to secure a point, meaning Spurs have won just one of the last seven Premier League games.

Postecoglou, however, says he remains optimistic of things improving when his squad’s injury situation eases.

“Yeah I think so, it’s still fairly tight and I just feel that at some point, we will get something like a relatively healthy squad and I think when we do that, we’ll be able to perform at a really high level consistently,” he said.

“We’ve already shown this year that we can beat anyone and there’s a chance there where we could go on a run but at the moment, that’s kind of secondary to the first bit, we have to just try and get some support for the players, both mentally, physically and in terms of numbers to give them the opportunity to play at their best.”

Tottenham remain 11th in the Premier League table after the draw and Postecoglou admits his side’s recent form has been painful for him personally.

“It hurts me because I’m responsible for it, ultimately,” he said. “I’m the person in charge, so of course it hurts and when I see how hard they’re trying it hurts even more because you want them to get a reward.

“I think today they deserved a reward for their efforts even though they were dipping into their reserves of energy which I don’t even know where they got from.

“I wanted them to get a reward for their efforts so of course it hurts. It hurts immensely but at the same time it’s my responsibility for where we’re at right now and it’s my responsibility to try and get us out of it.”
