Social media can be a challenging place at times, but the funny side of things are why we all keep coming back.
Liverpool fans were rightfully beside themselves yesterday morning when a clip emerged of Mo Salah saying that the club had not yet offered him a new contract.
Amongst a crowd, Salah is still the best player in Liverpool’s team. He is arguably the best attacker in the world right now, a title he has always been worthy of for nearly a decade.
As a result, fans have been waiting for something, anything from the club itself to clarify and rectify what is a worrying situation.
So what was the first thing out this morning after the video started to gain steam?
A tweet on the official Liverpool account that Lana Del Rey will be playing Anfield as part of her tour next year.
Understandably, fans did not react well.
“Lana Del Rey? More like Lana Del Pay Salah what he wants you cheap [EXPLETIVE] (not my best)” responded @BackseatmanLFC, whilst @Nozza7351 quipped “Can she play RW tho if you don’t give Mo his contract”.
@ArneSlotBall probably said it best, though, replying “How about you give Mo Salah a contract so he can perform next year and the year after at Anfield ffs”.
Liverpool have paid the price for the perils of the scheduled tweet. Obviously this is something that they will have had planned for a while and has unfortunately coincided to make the worst-looking response to the situation possible.
Del Rey herself does actually have a link to the club, recording a beautiful rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” for the 2020 documentary, The End of the Storm. The film itself followed the club as it embarked on the legendary 2019/20 Premier League title victory.
The club have subsequently posted multiple tweets about Salah’s brilliant performance against Southampton yesterday, quelling a few worries, but the damage was already done.
The international megastar will be at Anfield on 28th June 2025.
Hopefully, so too will Mo Salah.
