Kenneth Zohore has been without a club since March which may not surprise West Brom fans

It's fair to say that Kenneth Zohore's time at West Brom wasn't exactly a success, and when his contract was terminated in January 2023, the only surprise was that it took so long to do so.

However, just over a year on from his disastrous spell at the Hawthorns coming to an end, the Danish striker is a free agent, and has been since March after leaving Slask Wrocław, so it's not as if he's managed to reignite his career since leaving West Brom.

Despite being a free agent for almost four months, Zohore appears no closer to finding a new club, and it's been quite the fall from grace for the 30-year-old since The Baggies forked out £8million to sign him in the summer of 2019.

At 30, there is still plenty of time for him to turn his career around and get back on track, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to find a club later this summer.

As signings go, it's no exaggeration to say that Zohore will go down as one of the worst West Brom signings in history thanks to the fee they paid for him and his lack of impact at The Hawthorns.

After a three-year spell at Cardiff City where he scored 24 goals in 101 appearances, West Brom's hierarchy decided that the Danish striker would help them win promotion to the Premier League, and forked out £8million to sign him.

The Baggies did actually win promotion in Zohore's first season, but he can't take too much credit.

Zohore played 20 times in total, making 17 appearances in the league, scoring three times as West Brom finished second and won promotion to the top-flight.

His first season at The Hawthorns was ravaged by injury, but the hope was that he could kick on in the Premier League.

That was far from the case, however, and he spent the season on loan at Millwall, where he scored just twice.

In his absence, West Brom were relegated, and Zohore came back into the fold at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign, albeit only briefly. He played the club's first three games, failing to score, and didn't make the matchday squad for the rest of the season.

It would be more of the same during the 2022/23 season for Zohore, and he made the matchday squad just twice, failing to make an appearance and subsequently had his contract terminated in January 2023, with his contract set to expire this summer anyway.

His three-and-a-half-year stay at West Brom saw him play just 23 games, scoring five times - a dreadful signing.

After becoming a free agent in January last year, Zohore returned to his homeland and joined former club Odense Boldklub on a short-term deal, but he made just four appearances, and failed to find the back of the net.

As a free agent, he decided to try his luck in Poland last summer, and signed a one-year deal with Ekstraklasa side Slask Wrocław. A fresh start away from English football looked like exactly what Zohore needed, but his time in Poland was a disaster.

He made just seven appearances, starting one league game, and failed to find the back of the net again, so he was let go early, leaving the club on the 6th March by mutual consent.

As it stands, Zohore is a free agent, and the 2017/18 season at Cardiff, where he thrived under Neil Warnock and helped them win promotion, seems a long, long time ago.

It's easy to forget that he's only 30, so by no means is he old, and he should still be playing at a decent level, but it just hasn't happened for him in recent years.

Whether he finds a club later this summer remains to be seen, but West Brom fans certainly won't be surprised to read that their former striker is a free agent.
