América in line to recoup money from sale of Silvio Romero | OneFootball

América could receive a welcome financial boost with the potential sale of striker Silvio Romero from Independiente to Atlético Mineiro.

Romero moved from América to Independiente in 2018, but the cash-strapped Argentinian side have yet to pay Las Águilas the full amount of the agreed transfer fee.

As a result, the Azulcrema still retain 30% of the player’s economic rights.

With 31-year-old Romero no longer in Independiente’s plans (he is one of the highest earners at the club), Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro are interested in signing the attacker.

Rádio Itatiaia in Brazil have reported that Atlético are willing to pay between $2m and $3m for 70% of the Argentinian’s economic rights.

If the deal goes through, América should pocket upwards of $600,000 from the transaction.

Romero, who scored two goals for the Mexican side in the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, cost América an estimated $8m when they bought him from the now-dissolved Chiapas earlier that year.
