Serie A giants Napoli picked up a 1-0 win over Empoli and manager Antonio Conte has stated that he doesn’t want his players to be too excited about their position in the table.

The Partenopei went three points clear at the top of the table with the nervous win, which came due to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s penalty just after the hour mark as it was won by Matteo Politano.

Inter do play against Roma, but if they win, they will still be two points behind the Partenopei, who haven’t lost since the opening game of the campaign.

Conte was asked about the game and he stated that their current league position shouldn’t be a burden for the players. He told reporters, as relayed by TMW:

“I repeat, the first half did not satisfy me. We did nothing of what we had expected, then we recovered. We are building and let’s enjoy what we are doing without getting too excited. This position in the standings must not weigh us down.”

He also stated that the first half was poor and he also had the same sentiment about Kvaratskhelia, saying: “The same thing applies to him as I said to the others. No one in the first half achieved a passing grade, in the second half everyone performed better.

“The goal is to build a foundation, we also have to rebuild ourselves as a team. When you make changes like this it is fundamental, every year we will have to raise the quality of the team.”

Napoli aren’t playing in the European competitions and that is handing them a big advantage over others and that could propel them to the title, with Conte known to be an expert when it comes to winning one game a week.
