La Albiceleste veterans out to finish on a high

Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina have won 10 consecutive matches heading into the final and have conceded just one goal in this year’s event.

A number of their squad members are getting towards the end of their illustrious careers, and at least a couple of them are expected to retire from international football.

Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi (36) look set to step down from the national team after the final and will be desperate to go out on a high.

Lionel Messi may be a year older than Di Maria and Otamendi, but whether the captain will continue into the 2026 World Cup remains to be seen.

The Inter Miami star is looking to win his second Copa America title and built up to the final with a goal in the semi-final success over Canada.

Colombia may be underdogs, but they go into the showpiece in fantastic form. You must go back to February 2022 for the last time Nestor Lorenzo’s men lost.

That’s 28 games in total, but Argentina were the team that inflicted that defeat with a 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Cordoba.

Lautaro Martinez scored the winner in that game, and the Inter Milan forward is currently the leading goalscorer in the Copa America, with four goals to date.

Argentina vs Colombia team news

Argentina have no injury concerns or suspensions, so Scaloni may name the same team that started the semi-final against Canada.

If that is the case, Gonzalo Montiel is set to start at right-back while the manager has to choose between Julian Alvarez and Martinez as Messi’s partner up front.

With Daniel Nunoz suspended following his red card against Uruguay, Santiago Arias is set to start at right-back for Colombia.

Bologna Centre-back Jhon Lucumi faces a late fitness test to see if he can feature after missing the last four games with a thigh injury.

Argentina vs Colombia predicted line-ups

Argentina: E.Martinez; Montiel, Lisandro Martinez, Romero, Tagliafico; Mac Aliister, Fernandez, De Paul, Di Maria; Alvarez, Messi.
