Arsenal drew a blank against Nottingham Forest last night, falling further behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners huffed and puffed but could not break down a resilient Nottingham Forest side that was happy to take a point and hold on to third place in the standings.

Liverpool capitalised on their slip-up, beating Newcastle United 2-0 to extend their lead at the summit to 13 points.

The Reds are practically champions in waiting with 10 games left to play, but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refused to throw in the towel.

Arteta said (via the BBC), “It was the same a week ago, two weeks ago, three months ago. The only thing we can do is win our matches and see how many points we get.

“Today we dropped two points, which is very painful again, and we have to step up.”

As much as Arteta wants to cut a defiant figure to inspire his side to keep pushing, they do not have enough in the tank to catch Liverpool.

Arsenal will turn their attention to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, which is a chance to salvage something from another underwhelming season.

After the first leg of their European showdown, the Gunners attempt to keep their faint title hopes alive when they travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

The record books do not favour Arsenal, with the Gunners winning only two of their last 17 trips to Old Trafford since April 2008.

The Red Devils are not in the best shape but can cause Arsenal problems.
