There are only a few days left in this summer transfer window, but FC Barcelona are far from completing their market activities. It is clear that the Catalans are working to complete the sales of some of their players on an urgent basis, but the club’s work in the area of arrivals has also not finished yet.

Currently, their financial state makes it difficult to make their moves in the market for their desired targets. Up to now, the Blaugranes have signed only Dani Olmo in this summer transfer window, but Deco is confident that there will be enough room in the finances to sign one or two more players before this month ends.

According to SPORT, both Deco and Flick are currently prioritizing the signing of a midfield pivot. They believe the departure of Oriol Romeu, the youth of academy talents, and the uncertain future of Ilkay Gundogan at the club makes it essential to reinforce the team in this area with an experienced player.

Marc Casado and Marc Bernal were both impressive in last night’s match against Valencia. Still, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen had to be brought on to manage the situation in the latter stages of the match. Thus, the midfield situation seems to be unsustainable going into a highly demanding season, especially with Frenkie de Jong still recovering from his injuries.

In such a situation, Deco is looking for a moderately expensive pivot option. The market is offering a lot of players in this position that offer high energy and physicality, but there are not many options that offer a balance of technicality and physicality. Those who offer such a balance are either too expensive, or are risky bets for the future.
