At a time when Barcelona are scrambling to register summer signings Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, the predicament of Andreas Christensen has perhaps gone unnoticed.

The Dane is facing a precarious situation at Barcelona, where he might not feature as prominently as featured, especially after Pau Cubarsi now established himself as a first-team regular.

This comes on the back of a long injury layoff, with the defender having been out of action since January. His return, therefore, could be key.

Barcelona calm about Christensen’s fitness

A recent report from SPORT has offered an update on Christensen, suggesting that Barcelona are not worried about the defender’s fitness.

This is despite the fact that the former Chelsea player will not be available tomorrow against Barbastro, in the Round of 32 in Copa Del Rey.

Christensen has not featured for Barcelona since August. But the club are calm about the situation and not rushing things out.

In fact, both Christensen and Barcelona are determined to not rush to deadlines, with the club prioritising the defender’s fitness before bringing him back into action.

The Dane, for his part, has made some solid progress, in regard to his recovery. He is gradually getting back in shape and could be back in action sooner rather than later.

For now, though, Christensen is not at his physical peak and does not have the medical clearance. Barcelona, therefore, continue to count on the services of their existing defensive options.

The defensive combination of Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi has worked well for the most part. But Barcelona also have the option of Ronald Araujo, who has returned from his long injury layoff.
