Ferran Torres was one of the goalscorers for Barcelona as they defeated Las Palmas 2-0 on Saturday night.

Once again, the Spanish forward started as a substitute and became one of Hansi Flick’s game-changers coming on from the bench as he entered the pitch at Gran Canaria in the 85th minute and found the net during stoppage time.

The former Manchester City attacker is now the third-highest scorer in the Barcelona squad, despite not being a regular starter, proving to be a brilliant ‘super sub’ for the Blaugrana.

He does not require many minutes to outplay opposing goalkeepers. In fact, six of the eleven goals he has scored this season have come after coming off the bench.

On track for his best season

Ferran Torres is currently enjoying an excellent run of form, and this season could turn out to be the best of his career, at least in terms of statistics.

With his latest strike against Las Palmas, Torres has now scored eleven goals this season from 27 games. Five of these have come in La Liga, four in Copa del Rey, and two in the UEFA Champions League.

This tally equals the best goal-scoring record at Barcelona, having netted 11 times last season from 42 matches.

During the 2020/21 campaign at Manchester City, Torres bagged 13 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions – only two more than he has scored currently.

So, should the 24-year-old score three more goals before the end of the season, which is almost a certainty given his form, he will be achieving the best-ever goal tally of his career.

A key contributor despite limited starting opportunities

As mentioned earlier, Ferran is the third-highest scorer for Barcelona, behind Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, despite not being a regular starter.

The Spanish international has played in 27 matches, but he has only been in the starting eleven on nine occasions.

The intense competition in the Blaugrana attacking unit makes it difficult for the 24-year-old to secure a place in the starting lineup, where Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski, and Raphinha are Hansi Flick’s preferred attacking trio.

Despite his situation, Torres has been making a telling impact coming off the bench for Barcelona this season. Indeed, six of his 11 goals this season have come as a substitute.

The 24-year-old is scoring at a rate of one goal every 87 minutes, putting him amongst the most lethal finishers in Europe at the moment.

Three more goals before the end of the season would see Ferran accumulate the best goal tally of his professional career.
