The summer transfer window could see Barcelona part ways with at least one of their current central defenders.
The Blaugrana already have five centre-backs competing for two positions in the starting lineup in Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia, and Andreas Christensen.
On top of that, Barça also intend to sign Jonathan Tah on a free transfer and have reassured the German international that they will have space to register him and that he will receive regular game-time.
As such, at least one of the current defenders will have to leave in the summer.
Now, Fichajes reports that Eric Garcia’s future at Barcelona could take a significant turn this summer, with both Girona and Real Sociedad preparing concrete moves to sign the Catalan defender.
Girona already attempted to sign Garcia in the winter window, but the deal was blocked by Flick. The Catalans have not abandoned their pursuit, viewing the defender as an ideal fit in Michel’s setup.

Real Sociedad are also in the market for defensive reinforcements for next season and consider Garcia’s profile to be a strong match. His La Liga experience and young age make him an attractive target for Imanol Alguacil’s side.
Garcia has earned Barcelona manager Hansi Flick’s trust and has seen his minutes increase gradually, especially in the second half of the season.
The German tactician values Garcia’s versatility, having used him in central defence, as a holding midfielder, and even as a right-back on a rare occasion.
However, the high level of competition in his position has limited his opportunities for consistent minutes.
Despite the situation, Flick wants to keep Garcia at Barcelona and has requested the club to renew his contract, which expires in 2026.
But the report states that the Catalan giants might be willing to consider his departure if a bid of at least €20 million is received.
A final decision will be made in the summer when Barcelona and the player evaluate the offers on the table. If the right bid arrives and satisfies all parties, an exit could materialise.
