Alvaro Carreras made a solid impression when SL Benfica took on FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.
The 21-year-old left-back has emerged as a potential target for the Blaugrana, who are intent on adding more competition in the squad for Alejandro Balde.
Reports suggested that the Catalans were planning on keeping a close watch on how the Benfica youngster would perform in the UCL clash this week and he did exceedingly well on the night.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the clash, Alvaro Carreras was asked about a potential return to Spain in the near future, especially with interest mounting from Barcelona as well as Real Madrid.

Carreras, who previously spent time at the Real Madrid academy, seemed to rule out any immediate transfer to Spain though, claiming that he has a long contract at Benfica and he owes the Portuguese club for counting on him.
“Going back to Spain? We never know, but I have a contract for many years here at Benfica, I am happy. They gave me the opportunity to grow and I owe them everything,” he said, as quoted by AS.
Carreras has a contract with Benfica, which runs until the summer of 2029. The deal is said to consist of a release clause worth €50 million.
Any club interested in the left-back would have to activate that clause as Benfica would be reluctant to let the Spanish Under-21 international leave for a lower sum.
