Barcelona are currently in a spot of bother. The Catalans could face a surprising prospect of losing Dani Olmo in January, as they face a race against time to register the Spaniard by end of the day.
Olmo’s fate is completely in La Liga’s hands right now, as the league reviews all documents regarding Barcelona’s deal with a Saudi fund, which could bring in an inflow of more than €100 million.
Regardless of the outcome, though, Barcelona’s ongoing woes highlight a worrying trend – the club’s balance sheets have worsened since the summer.
A recent report from SPORT indicates that Barcelona’s salary limit has indeed worsened since the summer, which played a key role in the club facing yet another rejection in finding a precautionary measure from the courts.
In the summer, Barcelona’s salary limit was €81 million below the permissible limit set by La Liga.

At the time, the club and Joan Laporta had promised to improve this deficit come January 2025. However, the situation has quite been the opposite.
That is because Barcelona’s current salary limit stands at a negative €153 million, meaning the club’s salaries have actually increased by €72 million.
This has reflected negatively on Barça’s balance sheets and the club, therefore, are in a worse condition than they were back in summer.
As such, Barcelona could find themselves in a difficult position should La Liga reject the deal with the Saudi fund. The club will not only lose Olmo but could also be forced to sell one of their star players in order to reduce the salary limit.
There are many outcomes in January that Barcelona must be ready for.
