A fresh insight into the future of Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has been provided on Monday.
And the news will no doubt come as a source of excitement for one of the midfielder’s former clubs.
The outfit in question? Real Madrid.
Alonso, for his part, has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines across all of Europe over the last 24 hours.
This comes after the Spaniard’s remarkable exploits on the bench at Bayer Leverkusen across the season to date finally bore fruit.
Owing to a five-goal drubbing of Werder Bremen, Die Werkself officially put themselves out of reach of perennial champions Bayern Munich atop Germany’s top-flight.
In turn, Leverkusen were named Bundesliga title-winners, for the very first time in the club’s history.
Alonso, for his part, has already committed his future to his current employers for next season, having rebuffed the advances of both Liverpool, and the aforementioned Bayern.
As much, it has since been claimed, comes with the 42-year-old having set his sights firmly on a move to Real Madrid in the near future.
Speaking to the media on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the links between his side’s headmaster, and the Bernabéu hotseat, were put to Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro.
And Carro did little to play down the speculation with his ensuing response, telling Diario AS:
“It’s possible that Xabi Alonso will become Real Madrid manager one day, yes.”
