Bayern Munich have confirmed Mathys Tel has signed a contract extension, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.

The French U21 international’s original contract ran until 2027 but Bayern have now locked him down for two further years.

Tel signed from Rennes in the summer of 2022 and has since gone onto score 13 goals in 58 appearances, most of which have come off the bench.

Speaking on his new contract, the 18-year-old said: “This contract extension means a lot to me. I’ve already learned a lot at Bayern, both on and off the pitch. Munich has become a home for me and my family, and the fans are also very important to me. I can’t be the player I am without them.

“When you play for Bayern, you always want to win every trophy. I want to score and set up goals, play with heart and energy for Bayern, and give everything for this club and its fans.”

The news of Tel’s contract extension comes off the back of Bayern’s 3-0 second-leg win over Lazio, which sees them into the Champions League quarter-finals once again.
