Bayern Munich starlet Oliver Batista Meier admits he has been hiding his Brazilian roots from team-mate Philippe Coutinho.
Batista Meier has a German father and Brazilian father and spoke both German and Portuguese fluently growing up.
However, his proficiency in his mother’s native tongue has waned over the years.
“I’ve forgotten a lot of Portuguese, which I’m a bit upset about,” the German U19 international told SportBild.
“Coutinho still doesn’t know I’m half-Brazilian.
“I don’t want him to know because then he’ll want to talk to me in Brazilian, and that’ll be difficult, even though I see myself as Brazilian.
“My German side comes out sometimes, but my technique is perhaps more Brazilian.”
Brazil international Countinho is currently on loan with the Bavarians from Barcelona.
Batista Meier has yet to make a first-team appearance for Bayern, although he has been included in two matchday squads by interim head coach Hansi Flick.
