Marco Reus’ Borussia Dortmund comeback lasted just minutes. Brought on in the 57th minute against Bochum on Saturday, the 33-year-old had a reaction and was forced to stop training on Sunday after just 30 minutes.

“He was in pain again,” said Edin Terzic on Monday afternoon. “To be on the safe side, we stopped training.”

It’s now reported by Ruhr Nachrichten that Reus hasn’t travelled with the squad to Lower Saxony ahead of their game against Wolfsburg on Tuesday evening. Reus left BVB’s training ground via private car, 30 minutes after the team.

Instead, Marco Pasalic (22) replaced Reus in the squad, giving Terzic another option in attack. Reus’ injury comes at a bad time with Tuesday’s game the final Bundesliga fixture before Hansi Flick names his 26-man squad for the World Cup on November 10.

Reus picked up an ankle injury in mid-September in BVB’s 1-0 win against Schalke and although returning for 45 minutes against Union Berlin four weeks later, his ankle caused him further problems.
