In December 2023, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti signed a contract extension, solidifying his position with the club until 2026. However, this has not deterred Brazil from keeping an eye on him, reports Alejandro Alcazar via SPORT.

Brazil’s recent disappointment in the Copa America where they lost to Uruguay in the quarter-final has sparked widespread outrage, with much of the criticism aimed at coach Dorival Junior.

Despite this, Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), has confirmed that Dorival will remain in his position until 2026.

Rodrigues emphasized that there is no immediate rush to find a replacement, citing the upcoming World Cup qualifiers as a reason for continuity.

“In two months, there are the World Cup qualifiers, and the plan is to continue with him,” he said.

Brazil want Ancelotti to falter at Real Madrid

Interestingly, some observers believe this strategy is a way to buy time, hoping that Ancelotti might face challenges at Real Madrid, which could lead to an early departure and a potential move to Brazil.

Should Ancelotti struggle at Madrid, he might end up leaving the club and taking over the Brazilian national team, thus reactivating the plan that was initially thwarted by his contract renewal. Conversely, if Ancelotti excels with Madrid, Brazil would likely stick with Dorival.

Ancelotti’s extension with Real Madrid is set to last until 2026, aligning with the end of Dorival’s current contract, which could see Ancelotti taking the helm of Brazil’s national team in time for the next FIFA World Cup World Cup.

Brazil know what they are doing

At this moment, Rodrigues remains optimistic about Brazil’s prospects under Doriva and their immediate focus is on the World Cup qualifiers.

This situation presents a fascinating dynamic. On one hand, Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid seems secure for now, but the allure of leading a prestigious national team like Brazil remains.

On the other hand, Brazil’s faith in Dorival signifies a commitment to stability and long-term planning, despite recent setbacks.

As the World Cup qualifiers approach, all eyes will be on both Ancelotti and Dorival. Ancelotti’s performance at Real Madrid will be scrutinised not just by his club but also by Brazilian football officials and fans alike.

Meanwhile, Dorival will have the immediate task of guiding Brazil through the qualifiers, with his performance potentially determining whether the CBF’s long-term strategy will hold or shift.
